Newsletter #17 – What’s Really Holding You Back?

What’s Really Holding You Back

News-Brand New Format

I’ve gotten a lot of feedback from readers saying that my newsletter is both too long and too infrequent. So, as of right now, my newsletter will be much shorter and will go out twice a month (that is 200% more Josef!):

  • *1st Wednesday of every month
  • *3rd Wednesday of every month

Also, I would like to congratulate myself. Over the past five weeks I have raised my rates 25%, opened a good number of slots in my schedule, and sold them all out already. Thank you to everyone who helped make that happen.

What’s Really Holding You Back

If one foot walks West, and the other East, you will remain exactly where you started in your journey … although the split is likely to hurt like hell! That is, when people are trying to get fit or drop fat they want to do so while remaining “normal.”

For the record, “normal” in America is FAT. Normal in America is unhealthy. If you have any extra fat to lose, then it is your “normal” lifestyle that is to blame.

People say they want to start working out, but then skip workouts at the drop of a hat — the instant there is stress or chaos in their lives, or when a scheduling conflict rears its ugly head. They say they want to eat better, but then abandon ship the instant a cupcake comes over the transom or a dinner out is offered or life just generally doesn’t go as planned. Ultimately, they are so quick to renege on their commitments because they say things like, “you gotta live,” “who wants to live like that?” and so on.

These statements are code for, “I want to fit into my clothes and I want to look hot naked, but I want to do it without really making any substantial changes to my life. I don’t really want to turn into one of those people that eat right almost all of the time, and almost never miss a workout.” Ultimately, what they are saying is that they want the goods, but they don’t want to pay – or at least, they don’t want to pay anywhere near full price. (The last time I checked, the universe wasn’t running any special sales on the body you want.)

Yeah, you can do smarter workouts that get better results in less time. But, you still have to do them, and you have to do them essentially without fail. It boggles most people’s minds, but an excuse, no matter how good, does NOT constitute a workout.

Yes, you can make smarter food choices and use better recipes (like the ones on my site) so you can get lean without starving, and without giving up food that tastes good. But, you still have to eat right at almost every single meal.

You cannot walk East and West at the same time. You cannot expect to eat crap, get drunk on a regular basis, skip workouts and make progress – even if you did hire me as your trainer. I am not a magician.

Rip the band-aid off. Create a brand new normal and get both feet walking toward the body you want. It is just like anything else worth having – in the short run you must make sacrifices and be uncomfortable, BUT in a few weeks eating right, hitting the gym, and taking fish oil will be your brand new normal. And if you do things right, you really won’t miss the old, fat, unhealthy “normal.” Because looking great and feeling great all of the time is a lot more fulfilling and much longer lasting than that cupcake.
